What is this blog for?
Welcome!
I realize it's a little strange for this to be my second post on this blog, but that's just how the world works sometimes. Accordingly, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Noel, a professor of computer science by day and a avid games enthusiast also by day. I've been inspired by the OSR/NSR/POSR/whateverSR blogosphere to start a place to write up my own small creative projects, like this one. It's also a secondary goal of mine to just put stuff out there to improve both my rate of creative output, my rate of finishing projects, and my rate of writing new stuff.
Topics I Might Write About Include...
- Scenario design and tooling for tabletop RPGs, like Triangle Agency, His Majesty the Worm, and various OD&D-adjacent games like Knave 2e
- Pedagogy techniques, like active learning or alternative grading
- Computer science topics that interest me, like security and privacy or natural language processing
What's Next?
My immediate plans are to take some of the awesome tools other folks have written for various RPGs (again, see my previous post) and actually run through implementing them. This may include...
- Dungeon design inspired by Josh and Warren's excellent Designing Dungeons course as I prep an open-table megadungeon for my local friends
- Node-based scenario design for Triangle Agency
- Procedural play for Triangle Agency and other games that don't have OSR-style procedures
My next planned post is to write up my time-tracking procedure for Triangle Agency, as I think adding random encounters and making time meaningful could go a long way towards improving your Triangle Agency games.
I plan to tag all of these in a reasonably sensible way. We'll see about that. I hope you get something out of this blog!
